Moen #87581 Chrome Kitch Faucet/Spray Review

(More customer reviews)I bought a life-time warranty Moen kitchen faucet about 10 years ago. Within a couple of years the calls to Moen service started. An unending stream of problems with that faucet, none related to each other except for being part of the same Moen faucet. The chrome peeled off the plastic shroud just below the handle. The spring in the soap dispenser collapsed to a small fraction of its former capability. The chrome nozzle on the soap dispenser discolored. The same nozzle eventually just fell out. The hand soap in the dispenser eventually came out brown because of the pump mechanism rusting inside. The plastic sprayer handle simply snapped off one day. The chromed plastic cap on the top of the handle where it connects to the rest of the faucet simply fell off because a tab on the underside apparently cracked. The faucet started squealing when moving the lever, so the cartridge had to be replaced. Naturally, all these problems wouldn't be complete without water leakage issues on occasion. So far no problem getting replacement parts though. We call Moen up, tell them what's wrong, they're not at all surprised, and they send new parts. We go without whatever functionality is missing for a week (eg. no water in the kitchen), the parts arrive, and I repair it yet again. It is repair-the-Moen-faucet week again in our household, but this time in dismantling the faucet, the head of the screw that holds the lever on just twisted right off like it was made of butter. So, tomorrow we call again for yet another replacement part because the screw shaft could not be removed. It's obvious by looking at it that Moen designed in a screw that was far too small for the application. Lucky thing it's covered by a life-time warranty, right? Do not be fooled, "life-time warranty" does not mean you're getting quality because you won't be getting quality at all. All it means is that their margins are so incredibly high that they can afford to keep sending out replacement parts to the persistent few who don't just toss out the faucet and buy a whole new one. My advice? Stay away from Moen products, whether they have life-time warranties or not. The aggravation isn't worth it. I have friends with Moen fixtures who tell me they have very similar problems. I wish I could point you to a better brand, but I haven't figured that out yet. I know what I won't be buying ever again - Moen.

American Standard 4175.501.002 Colony Soft Single-Control Kitchen Faucet, Chrome Review

(More customer reviews)I just replaced one of these. When I first looked at the faucet, I thought there was some debris around the joint causing the faucet to stick. Actually pieces of the the thin chrome plating had chipped away. The metal underneath was heavily corroded, stained black, and expanding (explaining the sticking joint). It had already begun to leak water, and I decided it was irreparable.
I can't say it's a cheaply made faucet; it is solid and heavy. Don't expect it to last very long, however. The chrome plating is either too thin or too poorly bonded to protect the faucet.
The design itself is also silly. Why should a single handle, all-in-one faucet require 3 holes and a massive base? I would highly recommend buying one of the sets that connects each part (the faucet head, the control(s), a side spray, and sometimes a soap dispenser) through a single hole. That way it's easier to install (no plumber's putty necessary, disgusting stuff), clean, and repair. With the control handle separate from the faucet arm there is also less pressure on that joint; the arm is easier to move and less likely to bind later.
I looked at American Standard's warranty before replacing the faucet. It states: "The limited warranty excludes damage due to aggressive air or water conditions, or harsh or abrasive cleaners and/or materials." So basically if you use your faucet as a faucet, don't expect them to honor the lifetime warranty.

It was simple to install, works well, and we like it so much that we'll probably keep it installed for a long time. The end piece has enough swivel range to spray around the whole sink, but it still feels sturdy.

(More customer reviews)I received this item in a timely manner, however the received item is just the sprayer end and not included was the bottom ferrule and hose guide as depcited in the picture. The ad clearly states the hose is not included which is fine with me however I expected to receive what was pictured or a much better item description stating the hose guide and bottom ferrule are not included. Overall the quality of the product seems fine but I'm dissapointed with the missing parts as they will be difficult to match. Sent the company an email to see if they will do something on their end and will report back after receiving a reply...

Moen 100107 Protege Side Spray, Universal Replacement, Chrome Review

I thought that at least it would made of metal, which is why I needed a replacement...my 6 month old PF broke off because it was plastic. It is also rather short and not that easy to grip. The $204 retail price is a joke. No one in their right mind would pay that!
