(More customer reviews)I have a 2 1/2 year old that is being potty trained. We have an elongated toilet in our main floor powder room where she uses the bathroom the most. Two problems with that: 1) our child seat was for standard toilets so it moved around and she never felt comfortable going to the potty by herself. 2) Having to remove and replace the child seat whenever we had guests. We recently installed the Kohler Transition toilet seat and she absolutely loves it. She feels so safe sitting on the child ring that she now wants to use the potty by herself and all the time...even when she doesn't have to go potty. The quiet close feature is an added bonus, because I don't have to worry about the toilet seat slamming down on her fingers when she sets the seat down. Another great thing about the seat is that we don't have to remove the child seat whenever guests come over...they just lift it up to expose the adult ring or lift it up completely. I plan on purchasing another seat for her bathroom upstairs.

(More customer reviews)Our apartment's bathroom is so small that we can't even fit a potty on the floor, and there's nowhere to sanitarily store a kid's seat to stick on the toilet. Luckily for us, I saw the Next Step in a synagogue bathroom, where it been installed to accommodate parents with small children.
Although my son is only a year old, I got inspired to potty-train him early when we wanted to go on a cruise but discovered that cruise lines won't allow children still in diapers to use ship swimming pools. I have friends who do Elimination Communication so I knew training him young was possible. Lo and behold - he LOVES using our "potty" and after a few days we're already using fewer diapers.
The Next Step is produced by Bemis, but in some places (such as the bed / bath store we bought it from online) it is branded as Mayfair. The child seat elegantly hinges into the lid and is a comfortable size for our baby's bottom - he's average size for a one year old but I believe he would have fit on this as early as six months. At first I steadied him with my arms, but I soon saw that he was fine sitting there alone without me holding him.
Now that I know about the Next Step, there's no way I would buy a potty or a separate seat to put on the toilet (except if we need it for outside the house), no matter what size bathroom we have in the future. It's so convenient to just have everything go away in a flush and not have to clean out a kid's potty. And he loves to flush as his "reward" for going.

I shopped around at Lowe's and Home Depot looking for a toilet seat that was worth the effort but found only flimsy boring choices. I went out on a limb and bought the Mayfair seat with Whisper Close hinges sight unseen.
I was impressed as soon as the UPS guy handed it to me. It was heavy with sturdy, thick construction and the whisper quiet hinges really work! No more slamming of the lid. If you have kids, this would be great, no chance of pinched fingers. The hinges themselves are attractive, made of quality brushed nickle.
This toilet seat is a great buy!

(More customer reviews)I bought two of these seats to accentuate the polished brass finish of my bathrooms. Out of the box, the finish on one of them was uneven and sparse. The white color of the seat does not match that closely to the bowl or the white color of any other seat I have ever purchased. The seat sits at an angle on the bowl. Finally, after the first "splash" that of course would inevitably hit the polished brass hinge, it quickly corroded away the finish and left it mottled. My previous seats lasted 6 years and these will be in the trash after only one month, so my experience definitely differs from others. Maybe the story is better for the chrome hinges, but I would not buy the polished brass.

(More customer reviews)I wish I would have paid close attention to the reviews. Most of the positive reviews have been made by people with little girls. It does not work for boys. As a previous reviewer indicated, there is a gap between both the adult seat and the toilet as well as between the little seat and the adult seat. Too much leaks out from both gaps. We got it and installed it yesterday and have had too many leaks already. Wish I could figure out an easy solution. It is a very nice looking seat but no functional in my home.
