Dual Flush Conversion Kit Review

Dual Flush Conversion Kit

Received in retail packaging box in good condition(no shipping type packaging box, makes me nervous with plastic items with moving parts)via USPS in about one week, installation instructions were decent, they have a web site with video instructions also, took about one hour to install (time included to gather tools, drain tank, sponge out, etc). Works well as advertised, worth mentioning you will reuse your existing fill valve, tank bolts, seals, etc. with this kit (I had already installed an entire rebuild kit a year ago on my toilets) so this was not a problem for me, but if you can't remember when or if your components were replaced, you may want the deluxe kit that includes these other items. I have a septic tank/leech field system and hope to improve the function and life of my leech field by using less water. I'm going to give this a week or two on one toilet, and if all goes well do the rest.

I've seen dual-flush toilets in Europe before and wondered whether some similar water-saving options were available here. I happened upon these kits on Amazon while looking for the Fluidmaster 8300P8 Flush 'N' Sparkle Toilet Bowl Cleaning System for the toilets in my house. I decided on this kit after doing quite a bit of research. I thought about getting the HydoRight kit since it doesn't require taking the tank of the toilet to install, but there were several complaints about it not seating properly in place of the existing flapper valve, among other issues. I went with the Better Flush complete conversion kit to avoid any incompatibilities between old and new parts, and I'm glad I did.
The written instructions that came with my kits are admittedly sparse; the company provides more complete information including videos on its Web site (http://www.beingwater.com) in an effort to reduce paper use for instructions. I have experience removing toilet tanks and replacing parts, so I had no problem following the directions. Just read the instructions, watch the video, and take it one step at a time if you're new to this. It's really a simple process. One note of caution: during installation, the black rubber washer pictured above the lowest metal washer above the wing nut (with the wing nut down and the head of the bolt head up) actually goes above the other metal washer sitting on top of the nut in the middle of the bolt. The instructions say this but the rubber washer in question isn't in the correct position out of the bag. Also, getting the bolts unscrewed from your toilet tank to be able to get the tank off could pose a problem; if the nuts are rusted or just won't budge, first try some lubricant like WD-40. If that doesn't work you may have to use a small hacksaw to cut the bolts off.
Unless you're a rental property owner or apartment manager and don't want anyone tampering with the kit, you won't want to use the 'orifices' that insert into the tubing from the fill valve; better to use the adjustable bowl fill valve that clips onto the bowl fill tube. Once the kit is installed, you can fine-tune the amount of water used for the half and full flush, as well as how much water to fill in the bowl. I recommend number 3 for the half flush and a full (maximum) setting for the full. I set the bowl fill to about half of where it used to be. This way, I'm not only saving water when I use the half flush, but I also save water by not having the bowl fill with so much water. It adds up to save a LOT of water and will save a lot of money on your water bill too.
By using this kit with the Flush 'N Sparkle chlorination kit, I not only extend the life of the chlorine cartridges since less water runs through the chlorination chamber after a half flush, but I also avoid damaging the dual-flush kit by having a chlorine tablet in the tank deteriorating the plastic parts.
I now have these kits installed on all three toilets in my house (just in time for our city's switch from flat rate water billing to volumetric [actual use] billing). I full recommend this kit and hope this lengthy review helps others save precious water and money.

The Better Flush Dual Flush Bonus Pack has all you need to upgrade your toilet to High Efficiency toilet standards without throwing your good 3.5 gal or 1.6 gal toilet into the landfill. Unlike Quick Fix/Drop in products that alter your existing worn out flapper valve with sometimes leaky results, Better Flush is a permanent solution to wasting 1000's of gallons of water at the toilet. On average, the Better Flush will save 30 gals of water a day for a family of four. It's simple to operate. Push The small button for liquidsthe large button for solids. The buttons will install vertical or horizontal. The Better Flush uses a combination of head pressure in the tank and piston technology to not only use less water, but to give the water used more force to complete the job.The amount of water used in a half flush can be reduced to .8 gal(1/2 flush) and 1.4 gal (full flush)in a 1.6 gallon toilet. In a 3.5 gallon toilet the Better Flush can use as little as 1 gal (1/2 flush) and 2 gal. (full flush). With it's highly adjustable half and full flush adjustments,The Better Flush will fit most standard 2" two piece toilets built in the last 75 years. This includes tanks as low as 8 1/2" high as well as wall hung tanks. And yes it fits Mansfield with no extra parts to buy. Our "Better Fill" Water Saving Fill Valve is now included with the Bonus Pack. This quality fill valve will last for years and help save more water by not overfilling the bowl. This is done with an adjustable valve that regulates the water that enters the bowl while the tank fills, thus stopping overfilling. The Better Flush Bonus Pack comes with 3 high quality St. Steel bolts and tank to bowl gasket to make sure that you get a quality finished result. If you should have any questions during installation, the US based technical support team is ready to help. Taking an extra few minutes to replace the entire flush valve rather than adapting to just a portion of an old one really pays off. HAPPY FLUSHING.

Fluidmaster #681 Chrome Universal Flush Lever Review

Fluidmaster #681 Chrome Universal Flush Lever

Not neccessarily universal. Inexpensive yes. But only fits toilet bowls with a deep cover or a large toilet bowl as when flushing the flapper lever only works when cover is off. When cover is on flapper hit the top of the bowl and no flush. Wasted time, wasted money. Off to the nearest hardware store.
Well 30 minutes later took another look and instructions said to use a hack saw which I did. Shortened the flapper. Works fine now. Knob is a little loose. Who knows maybe I'll get that later. Nice price though.

We needed a flush handle for our guest bathroom . For a universal design all I can say is that it works. There is no way to adjust the threaded part that goes through the hole into the water tank. So in our case the chrome handle looks OK as you look at it, but when using it to flush, kinda feel like it is going to fall off loose. The hole in our water tank is much larger than the threaded handle bolt.

This showerhead is everything I expected. My hotwater is almost 2 min from my upstairs shower and the auto valve works perfect. Installation was easy. The showerhead is perfect with a wide full pattern. The only caveat is that if you are the type who like the shower to knock you down this is not for you. If you like a strong full pattern you will like this head. The price seems fair for the upper end quality. I am buying another.
