They swing shut almost 90% at full speed before slowing, which means a whack in the tush (or at least the door attacking your back) if your hands are full. Consulted the maker who recommended this hydraulic version. It is better, it closes about 10% before slowing down and the speed is adjustable (twist the barrel). Downsides: the release of the drag just before close-complete isn't as sudden, so the door may not latch itself. And on my lightweight door there was a lot of popping, creaking, groaning and gurgling at first. I covered the end pegs with black electrical tape (one layer barely fits) which cut the noise some, and it seems to be getting quieter with age too.
