(More customer reviews)After researching these mirrors, I ordered a Brookstone 10X, but it was way too powerful unless you are legally blind (however the quality was very good). So I ended up sending it back and getting this one. I knew my wife wanted the 5X, and I wanted the fluorescent light, as most use a 25W incandescent bulb which are dim and get kinda hot. Didn't care about the 5X/1X kind that flip sides, as this unit sits in front of a well-lighted vanity 1X mirror.
Installation was a pain, since it is wired in, but not too difficult if you have a switch or outlet near by to get 120V from. The fluorescent light is GREAT and has good color (according to my wife), much better and cooler than the incandescent 25W bulbs. The optical quality of the mirror is also very good (I look at least 5X worse than with a regular mirror, but it isn't the mirrors fault!).
My only complaint is that the hinges don't seem too robust, though there are "tightening" screws to allow you to adjust how hard they move. But to get a unit with real bearings in them, you have to buy a really expensive unit, so we will see how this one holds up. Since it is only a 1-sided mirror, it isn't as heavy as the dual-sided ones, so it will probably do ok.
