(More customer reviews)I found this light very difficult to install and adjust (and I'm an engineer). The light attachment is fragile and easy-to-break. The instructions are very poorly written (in China?) and give no clue at all how to adjust the light (You have to disassemble and rotate to one of three pre-set locked orientations before even beginning to use the louvres to adjust the projected light rectangle, and Bruck Lighting includes neither the hex key for this disassembly nor the bulb that goes inside). The fragile mounting ring of this lamp is very thin (0.05") and is inappropriately made of large-grain cast aluminum, so it will easily break if you just bump the lamp a little while fiddling with adjustments. Bruck Lighting does not carry spare parts for this expensive lamp, and does not warranty the lamp after installation has commenced, so if you break a small part - like I did - you are out the cost of the entire lamp.
Note that you also need to separately order a mounting kit (mounting plate, trim plate and transformer). Installing this kit should have been as simple as three wire nuts and two screws, but it took nearly two hours to get it right. The beveled sides of the 3.9" mounting plate will tend to be drawn into a 4" round utility box as you screw it down, so you have to shim the mounting plate to the ceiling all the way around the box. It needs to stick out just enough for the two tiny set screws of the trim plate to grab behind the beveled edges of the mounting plate without sticking out so far it will wobble. The tiny hex set screws run horizontally just a fraction of an inch from the ceiling, so you only get a half turn out of a standard hex key wrench per insertion, and if the screws don't grab at all or grab so high that the plate wobbles, then you have to remove, reshim and start over until you get exactly the right offset from the ceiling. (It would have been much better if the mounting plate were slightly larger than a box instead of slightly smaller than a box so it could be secured flat against the ceiling and you wouldn't have to shim it. It would have also been nicer if Bruck Lighting had included a long hex key wrench that you could turn 360 degrees. Bruck, if you're reading, please include a bulb too.)
The lamp can be disconnected from the trim connector, but the lamp grabs with 5 threads while the very thin connector locking nut grabs only one thread, so if you ever try to unscrew and remove the lamp, the connector sleeve will rotate instead, and the wire soldered inside will break off right where it enters the hollow rotating connector pin. Fortunately, I have access to a soldering station and a TIG welder, so I was able to repair the delicate pieces that were too-easily broken.
Once you have the lamp mounted, the adjustment range of the light rectangle size is much too narrow for my liking. I couldn't adjust the rectangle large enough for 40" artwork across a hall or small enough for the same 40" piece across a room, so I recommend you wire the lamp to a cord and try it in the candidate spot before you install the ceiling box.
If you're willing to dedicate a lot of time for a very careful permanent installation, the light does look great and can perfectly illuminate rectangular art. If you own a gallery and need to frequently move or adjust your lights, I wouldn't recommend the Bruck Spot Contour Light.
