HOW TO INSTALL DOOR HINGES.Step 1: Decide where you'd like to install the hinges. You can install hinges to make a door open to the left or the right.Step2:Mark the spots at which you want to install the hinges on the door frame. Most hinges are installed 10 inches from the door frame's bottom and 5 inches from the top.Step 3: Measure the same distance on the door itself and make corresponding marks.Step 4: Trace the outline of the hinge onto the door frame using a pencil. Make clear delineations of the width and height of the hinge.Step 5: Make marks for places in which you plan to place screws.Step 6: Create a depression in which to insert a recessed hinge on the door frame. Use a hammer and chisel to score the area within the outline of the hinge.Step 7: Screw the hinge in place. Avoid over-screwing the hinge.Step 8: Repeat Steps 5 through 8 to attach the recessed hinge to your door.Step 9: Connect the two halves of the hinges by reinserting the hinge pin. This will secure the door to the door frame.
