(More customer reviews)This kit is almost identical to the cable lighting kit that I had purchased at Ikea several years ago for less than half of the current price $55.80. The quality is not as good as it was made in China (as with just about everything else); Eurofase is a company based in Canada. I just received the kit and it was missing some parts. There are supposed to be 2 set screws that hold the light on the plastic and metal insulator that the chrome arms attach to. There are supposed to be 6 set screws total but there were only 3 in the box. A hook that is screwed into the wall to support the cable was missing, there were only 5 hooks instead of 6.
Since I had some experience with the Ikea light kits (3 total) I am going to keep the kit and modify it as I have done with the Ikea kits in the past. The set screws I can find at the local hardware store and the hooks I wanted to replace anyway because they are too big and attract too much attention. The cable, as marked on the box, is supposed to be 33 feet but after measuring I came up with 32 feet 8 inches (every 3 kits they save a foot), so I'll need to pick up some extra cable also (no fault on Eurofase's part), Ill need an extra 8 feet for my application.
The transformer is rated a 12 volts, 60 watts and looks bigger than others I have used 4" x 2 3/4" X 2 3/8" with two wall mounting tabs. The transformer is black with 6'6" electrical cord with a radial switch 6 inches from the transformer. The lights are 20 w with a glass cover over the front of the reflector. I am hoping that the cover is a UV filter. The back of the reflector casts a cool pinkish color that I find very relaxing when reflected off the ceiling.
Overall I do not think that the kit is worth the $56 I paid, but would pay $30 - $40 due to the quality and Eurofase's choice of hardware. I expect to spend another $10 for the parts I need and some extras to make it work for my application. Too bad Ikea does not sell these kits anymore...
